안녕하십니까?

지난 12월 13일 토요일 한국외국어대학교에서 거행된 (사)한국인도학회·한국외대 인도연구소 공 동학술대회 및 (사)한국인도학회 제59차 정기학술대회에 대해 간략한 보고를 올립니다. 이번 학 술대회는 <인도연구: 새로운 패러다임의 모색과 도전>라는 주제로 진행되었습니다.

학술대회는 두 개의 세션으로 나뉘어 진행되었습니다. 첫 번째 세션(좌장: 장재진, 동명대)에서는 “독립 시기 파키스탄의 수도 선정 과정과 그 함의에 관한 연구”(발표: 신민하, 서울대 / 논평: 이 춘호, 한국외대)와 “이민자를 배제하는 이는 포퓰리즘을 수용하는가? 인도 내 반이민 태도와 포 퓰리즘 성향의 관계와 교육의 조절효과”(발표: 한진원, 한국외대 / 논평: 백종완, 고려대)가 발표 되었습니다. 두 번째 세션(좌장: 이지은, 세종대)은 한국연구재단 학술지 지원사업 연구소모임 발 표를 위한 특별 세션으로 구성되었으며, 총 세 개의 연구소모임 발표가 이루어졌습니다. 연구소 모임 1에서는 “벵갈 르네상스의 시대적 의미에 관한 고찰: 민족의식 태동에 미친 영향을 중심으 로”(발표: 강명남, 한국외대·신민하, 서울대), 연구소모임 2에서는 “인도 내 우울이 관습적 및 비 관습적 정치참여에 미치는 이중적 영향: 성별의 조절효과”(발표: 김진오, 한국외대·한진원, 한국외 대), 그리고 연구소모임 3에서는 “2000년대 따밀 영화 속 달리뜨 서사의 대두”(발표: 윤보람, 자 와하르랄네루대), “카스트의 대전환: 고등교육 배경을 가진 달리트 청년의 사회이동성 열망과 한 계”(발표: 상연진, 한국외대), “신화의 다시 쓰기와 카스트 질서의 해체: 아미시 뜨리빠티의 『람 짠드라 시리즈』를 중심으로”(발표: 이동원, 한국외대)가 차례로 발표되었습니다.

학술대회 종료 시점까지 많은 분들께서 자리를 함께해 주셨으며, 각 발표 이후에는 심도 있는 질 문과 활발한 토론이 이어져 인도연구의 현재와 향후 과제에 대해 폭넓게 성찰하는 뜻깊은 시간 이 되었습니다. 이어서 진행된 정기총회에서는 학회 운영 및 회계 보고가 이루어졌으며, 이에 대 한 감사 보고도 함께 진행되었습니다.

이번 학술대회가 원활히 진행될 수 있도록 협력해 주신 공동 주최 기관인 한국외국어대학교 인 도연구소에 감사드리며, 귀중한 시간을 내어 수준 높은 발표와 활발한 토론으로 학술적 지평을 넓혀주신 여러 선생님들께도 감사의 말씀을 전합니다. 아울러 행사 준비 과정 전반에 걸쳐 지속 적인 관심과 응원을 보내주신 학회원 여러분께도 진심으로 감사드립니다.

Dear Members,

We would like to report on the 59th Regular Conference of the Korean Society for Indian Studies (KSIS) and the Joint Conference of the KSIS and the Institute of Indian Studies (IIS), Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), which was held on Saturday, 13 December 2025, at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.

The conference was organized under the theme “Indian Studies: Exploring and Challenging New Paradigms.”

The conference consisted of two sessions.

Session 1, chaired by Jaejin Jang (Tongmyong Univ.), featured the following presentations: “A Study of Pakistan’s Capital Selection Process at the Time of Independence and Its Implications” (Presenter: Minha Shin, SNU; Discussant: Choonho Lee, HUFS), and “Excluding Immigrants, Embracing Populism? Education as a Moderator in the Anti-Immigration Attitudes–Populist Attitudes Nexus in India” (Presenter: Jinwon Han, HUFS; Discussant: Jongwan Baik, Korea Univ.).

Session 2, chaired by Jieun Lee (Sejong Univ.), was organized as a special session for presentations by research groups supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) Academic Journal Support Program. Research Group 1 presented “A Study on the Historical Significance of the Bengal Renaissance: Focusing on Its Influence on the Emergence of National Consciousness” (Presenters: Myungnam Kang, HUFS·Minha Shin, SNU). Research Group 2 presented “The Dual Effects of Depression on Conventional and Unconventional Political Participation in India: Moderating Effect

of Gender” (Presenters: Jinoh Kim, HUFS·Jinwon Han, HUFS). Research Group 3 presented three papers: “The Emergence of Dalit Narratives in Tamil Cinema in the 2000s” (Presenter: Boram Yoon, JNU), “The Great Transition of Caste: Aspirations and Constraints of Social Mobility among Higher-Educated Dalit Youth” (Presenter: Yeonjin Sang, HUFS), and “Rewriting Myth and Deconstructing the Caste Order: Focusing on Amish Tripathi’s Ram Chandra Series” (Presenter: Dongwon Lee, HUFS).

A large number of participants remained until the end of the conference, and each presentation was followed by insightful questions and lively discussions, providing a valuable opportunity to reflect on the current state and future directions of Indian Studies. Following the academic sessions, the Annual General Meeting was held, during which reports on the society’s administration and finances were presented and approved.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the IIS at HUFS, our co-host institution, for its invaluable cooperation in ensuring the smooth organization of the conference. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to all presenters and discussants who contributed their time and expertise, as well as to all KSIS members who offered continuous support and encouragement throughout the preparation process.

Lastly, the KSIS operates through the interest and support of its members. Information regarding annual membership fees and donations is available on the society’s website. As a designated donation organization, the KSIS also issues donation receipts eligible for year-end tax deductions.

As we welcome the year 2026, we wish all our members good health and continued success in both their personal lives and academic endeavors. The Korean Society for Indian Studies will continue to provide venues for scholarly exchange and reflection and remain committed to the advancement of Indian Studies. We look forward to your continued interest and active participation in the society’s academic activities.
