제43차 정기학술대회 보고 /Report for the 43rd Conference of the KSIS

존경하는 한국인도학회 회원 여러분께

안녕하십니까? 지난
12월 8-9일 서울대학교 아시아연구소에서 개최된 국제학술대회
및 제43차 한국인도학회 정기학술대회 결과에 대해 간략한 보고 올립니다. 이번 학술대회는 인도 독립 70주년을 기념하여 “아시아 속의 인도”라는 주제로 주요 패널을 준비하였습니다.

개회식은 한국인도학회 회장 이거룡 교수님(선문대)의 개회사와 서울대학교 인문대학장 이주형 교수님의 환영사로
시작하였으며, 비끄람 도레스와미 주한 인도대사와 정홍섭 동명대 총장님께서 축사를 해주셨습니다. 또한 공동주최 기관 및 후원 기관장 인사로 서울대 아시아연구소장 박수진 교수님과 한국외대 인도연구소장 김찬완
교수님, 해인정사 주지 수진스님의 인사말씀이 있었습니다. 또한
인도와 한국의 대표적인 철학과 문학 연구자인 S.R. 바뜨 교수님(인도철학협회장)과 김우조 교수님(한국외대)의
기조연설을 통해 현재 한-인 인도학에 대하여 자리매김할 수 있었습니다.

이어 이틀에 걸쳐 진행된 학술대회 순서는 4개의 패널로 나뉘어 패널마다 네 분 선생님들의 다양한 연구발표와 토론이 이루어졌습니다. 각 패널은 “아시아 속의 인도”(좌장
백좌흠), “가야, 불교,
인도: 고대문명의 교류”(좌장 이거룡), “아유르베다와 인도의 수행전통”(좌장 황용식), “아시아의 맥락에서 ‘힌두’ 인도의
성장”(좌장 정채성)으로,
발표와 토론 외 참석자들의 열띤 질의응답이 이어지는 시간이었습니다. 또한 “인도의 대전환과 인도학의 한국적 재해석”이라는 주제의 라운드테이블을
통하여 앞으로 인도 연구의 방향에 대해 심도 깊게 토론하는 자리를 마련하였습니다.

학술대회 후 폐회식과 함께 정기총회를 개최하여 1년간 학회 운영과 2018년 사업계획에 대하여 이거룡 회장님께서
간략히 보고하였으며 (첨부파일 참조) 김선미 재무이사의 재무보고
후 문을식 선생님께서 감사결과를 보고하였습니다. 학술대회 다음날인
12월 10일에는 외국인 참가자들과 함께 국립중앙박물관과 북한산 삼천사, 서초구 인도박물관을 견학하고 양국간의 문화를 이해하는 자리를 마련하였습니다.

이번 학술대회가 성공적으로 개최될 수 있도록 공동으로 주최한
동명대학교 인도문화교류연구소와 서울대학교 아시아연구소, 사단법인 세계자연건강포럼, 한국외국어대학교 인도연구소, 주관한 서울대학교 아시아언어문명학부와
함께 후원을 아끼지 않은 주한인도대사관과 한국연구재단, 사단법인 향기로운 동행, 해인정사, 인도박물관에 깊은 감사의 말씀을 전합니다. 또한 알찬 프로그램의 학술대회가 될 수 있도록 노력해주신 이지은 한국인도학회 연구이사님께도 감사의 말씀을 전합니다.

무엇보다도 바쁘신 데에도 불구하고 다양한 발표와 토론을 통해
새로운 학술적 논의 대상들을 발견할 있도록 도와주신 여러 선생님들과 학술대회 준비 기간 내내 따뜻한 관심과 격려를 보내주신 한국인도학회 회원 여러분들께
다시 한 번 감사의 인사를 올립니다. 2018년 5월 간행
예정인 연구재단 등재지 『인도연구』, 그리고 6월 중 개최
예정인 제 44차 한국인도학회 정기학술대회에도 학회원 여러분의 많은 관심과 성원을 부탁 드립니다.

of the Korean Society for Indian Studies

The Korean Society for Indian Studies held an
International Conference and 43^rd Regular Conference on Friday and Saturday,
December 8-9^th, 2017, at Seoul National University Asia Center,
Seoul. In accordance with the 70^th anniversary of Independence of
India, the Conference was prepared around the theme of “India in Asia”.

The Opening Remarks was delivered by Prof. Geo-Lyong
Lee(Sun Moon U), President of the Korean Society for Indian Studies, followed
by Welcoming Remarks of Prof. Juhyung Rhi, Dean of College of Humanities, Seoul
National University. His Excellency Mr. Vikram Doraiswami, Ambassador of India
to Korea, and Professor Jung Hong Sub, President of Tongmyung University, also
delivered congratulatory remarks. In addition, co-hosts and supporters of the
conference gave short greetings: Prof. Park Soo Jin, Director of SNU Asia
Center, Prof. Chanwahn Kim, Director of the Institute of Indian Studies, HUFS,
Chief Priest of Haein-Jeongsa, Ven. Sujin. The Keynote Speeches were presented
by Professor S.R. Bhatt (Chairman for the Indian Council of Philosophical
Research) and Professor Woojo Kim (HUFS), on the current state of philosophy
and literary studies respectively.

The Conference itself was comprised of four panels
of total sixteen presentations over two days. Each panel was titled “India in
Asia”(Chair Professor Jwa-Heum Baek), “Gaya, Buddhism, India: Exchanges between
Ancient Civilizations,”(Chair Professor Geo-Lyong Lee), “The Ayurveda and the
Meditative Tradition in India,”(Chair Mr. Yongshik Hwang), and “The Rise of
‘Hindu’ India in the Asian Context”(Chair Mr. Chae-seong Jeong). All papers
were followed with discussions and questions from the floor. A separate
roundtable on “Great Transition in India: A Korean Perspective on Indian
Studies” was also held to discuss the future of Indian Studies.  

Following the closing ceremony of the conference,
Professor Geo-Lyong Lee briefly presented last year’s report and plans for 2018
as part of the Regular Meeting. Professor Eul-Shik Moon gave his audit report
after the financial report of Professor Sunmi Kim. On December 10^th,
foreign participants of the conference joined a tour of the National Museum of
Korea, Samchun-sa of Bukhan Mountain, and Indian Museum, Seocho-gu.

We would like to thank our co-hosts, the Indian
Cultural Exchange Research Institute, Tongmyong University, Seoul National
University Asia Center, World Naturopathic Medicine Forum Inc., Institute of
Indian Studies, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, as well as the Department
of Asian Languages and Civilizations, Seoul National University, and the Indian
Embassy, Seoul, the National Research Foundation of Korea, Hyanggiroun
Donghaeng, Inc., Hae-in Jeongsa, and Indian Museum for their support of the
conference. We also applaud the efforts of Dr. Jieun Lee, Officer of Research,
for organization of the program.

Most of all we thank all participants of the
conference, as well as scholars and students who gathered from various
universities to listen and contribute to the proceedings. We look forward to
seeing your work in the new issue of the Journal of Indian Studies, to be published
in May 2018, and hope to meet you at our 44th Regular Conference, planned for June
