안녕하십니까?

지난 11월 28일 한국외국어대학교 교수회관 강연실에서 개최된 인도철학회-한국인도학회-한국외국어대학교 인도연구소 공동학술대회 결과에 대해 간략한 보고 올립니다.

개회식은 인도철학회 총무이사 이태승 교수님의 진행에 따라, 한국외대 부총장 최종찬 교수님의 환영사와 한국인도학회장 임근동 교수님의 환영사, 한국외대 인도연구소장 이은구 교수님의 환영사로 시작하였습니다. 이어 비끄람 도레스와미 주한인도대사님께서 인도와 한국의 교류 및 발전 방향에 대하여 기조연설을 하셨습니다.

이어 진행된 학술대회 순서는 2개의 패널로 나뉘어 여러 선생님들의 다양한 연구발표와 토론이 이루어졌습니다. ‘현대 인도사회의 제 문제와 종교의 역할’이라는 대주제 하에 인도철학회와 한국인도학회의 발표자 및 토론자를 주제에 따라 구성하였으며, 2개의 패널에 총 6개의 주제 발표와 열띤 토론이 진행되었습니다.

첫 패널은 성청환 교수님 (동국대)의 사회에 따라 구하원(서울대), 강명남 박사님(네루대)과 우명주 교수님(동국대)의 발표로 이루어졌으며, 황용식 선생님 (철학-명상 연구자)의 사회로 두 번째 패널에서는 야나로카 선생님(서울대), 원혜영 교수님(동국대) 및 김진영 교수님(서강대)의 발표가 있었습니다. 발표자 선생님들과 함께 이춘호 교수님(영산대), 김우조 교수님(한국외대), 황용식 선생님(철학-명상 연구자), 김한상 교수님(동국대), 강형철 교수님(금강대), 심재관 교수님(상지대)께서 심도 깊은 토론을 이끌어 주셨습니다. 폐회식은 한국인도학회 구하원 총무이사의 진행으로 인도철학회 회장 정승석 교수님의 인사말씀으로 마무리 지었으며, 학회별 총회를 나누어 개최하였습니다. 총회 관련 논의사항 및 결의안은 따로 소식 올리겠습니다.

이번 학술대회를 통해 인도 연구에 앞장서온 두 학회 회원들 간 교류를 더욱 공고히 하고 학회 발전에 대한 다양한 의견이 개진될 수 있었습니다. 학술대회가 성공적으로 개최될 수 있도록 많은 도움을 주신 인도철학회 정승석 회장님과 인도연구소 이은구 소장님께 감사의 말씀을 전합니다. 또한 알찬 프로그램의 학술대회가 될 수 있도록 노력해주신 이지은 한국인도학회 연구이사님께도 감사의 말씀을 전합니다.

무엇보다도 바쁘신 데에도 불구하고 다양한 발표와 토론을 통해 새로운 학술적 논의 대상들을 발견할 있도록 도와주신 여러 선생님들과 학술대회 준비 기간 내내 따뜻한 관심과 격려를 보내주신 한국인도학회 회원 여러분들께 다시 한 번 감사의 인사를 올립니다.

2016년 6월 개최 예정인 제 40차 한국인도학회 정기학술대회에도 많은 관심과 성원을 부탁 드립니다.

Report for the 2015 Special Conference of the Korean Society for Indian Philosophy (KSIP) and the Korean Society for Indian Studies (KSIS)

For the first time in the history of Indian Studies, the Korea Society for Indian Philosophy and the Korean Society for Indian Studies held their joint Conference with the Institute of Indian Studies, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), on Saturday, November 28th, 2015, at the Faculty Building, HUFS, Seoul.

The Opening Ceremony was moderated by Prof. Lee Tae-seung, Secretary of KSIP, with welcoming remarks by Prof. Choi Jong-chan, Vice-president of HUFS, Prof. Lim Geun-dong, President of KSIS, and Professor Lee Eun-gu, Director of the Institute of Indian Studies, HUFS. His Excellency Mr. Vikram Doraiswami, Indian Ambassador to Korea, delivered a Keynote Speech on the cultural and social interaction between India and Korea, and the future of India-Korea relations.

The Conference itself was comprised of two panels under the theme of “Issues in Contemporary Indian Society and the Role of Religion”, with presenters and discussants from both Societies mixed together. The first panel was moderated by Professor Seong Cheong-Hwan (Dongguk University). In the first panel, Professor Ku Ha-won (SNU), Dr. Kang Myung-nam (JNU), and Professor Woo Myung-joo (Dongguk University) presented their current research. The second panel, led by Dr. Hwang Yong-Shik (Independent scholar on philosophy and meditation), was comprised of presentations by Dr. Athaudakande Gnanaloka (SNU), Dr. Won Hye-young (Dongguk University) and Dr. Kim Jin-young (Sogang University). With discussions following each presentation by established scholars in each field, the papers presented engaging material to the participants, and we hope to see them in published form in the near future. Professor Jeong Seung-seok, President of KSIP, gave his final remarks for the Closing Ceremony, followed by the respective General Meetings of the two Societies. A separate report will be sent with a summary of the KSIS General Meeting.

We would like to thank Professor Jeong Seung-seok and Professor Lee Eun-gu for their heartfelt cooperation and support for the conference. We also applaud the efforts of Dr. Lee Ji-eun, Officer of Research for KSIS, for the organization of the program. Most of all we thank all participants of the conference, as well as scholars and students who gathered from various universities to listen to the proceedings.

We hope to see you again on June 2016 for our 40th Conference, and please let us know if you would be interested in forming a panel, presenting a paper, or acting as moderator/discussant.
