존경하는 한국인도학회 회원 여러분께,
안녕하십니까?
지난 12월 2일 토요일 한국외국어대학교에서 거행된 (사)한국인도학회·인도철학회·한국외국어대학교 인도연구소 HK+사업단 공동학술대회 및 (사)한국인도학회 제55차 정기학술대회에 대해 간략한 보고를 올립니다. 이번 학술대회는 <인도의 사상‧문화와 현대사회>라는 주제로 진행되었습니다.
개회식은 인도철학회 이태승 회장님의 개회사와 (사)한국인도학회 이은구 회장님의 환영사로 시작하였습니다.
학술대회는 여덟 개의 발표가 두 패널로 나뉘어 진행되었습니다. ‘인도, 과거와 현대의 가교’라는 주제의 첫 번째 패널(좌장 류현정, 서울대)에서는 리드비터(Leadbeater)의 The Chakras 에 나타난 차크라(chakra) 관념에 대한 일고찰: Ṣaṭcakranirūpaṇa와의 비교를 중심으로(김재민, 동국대: 논평 심준보, 한국외대), 자이나의 릭따리삐 필사 전통에 관한 철학적 배경은 존재하는가?(심재관, 상지대: 논평 한재희, 동국대), 타 학파 비판을 통한 샹까라의 불이(advaita) 확립: 『브라흐마 수뜨라 주석』 2장을 중심으로(박은선, 한국외대: 논평 문을식, 서울불교대학원대학교), 『요가수뜨라』(Yogasūtra )와 초능력: ‘초능력의 장(Vibhūti-Pādaḥ)’에 대한 뱌사(Vyāsa)와 하리하라난다(Hariharananda)의 해석 비교(최윤제, 동국대: 논평 안필섭, 동국대)에 대한 연구가 소개되었습니다. 이어 ‘인도의 오늘과 미래’라는 주제의 두 번째 패널(좌장 이순철, 부산외대)에서는 인도 복지국가의 형성: 사회복지 정책의 정치와 경로의존성(백종완, 고려대: 논평 김순애, 한국국제보건의료재단), 두르가데바(Durgadeva)의 『죽음징조집성』(Riṣṭasamuccaya ) 연구: 죽음준비교육과 관련하여(양영순, 서울대: 논평 김태홍, 네루대), 코로나 19, 힌두 민족주의, 그리고 인도의 무슬림(김희원, 애스턴대: 논평 이지은, 세종대), 인도종교철학에서 ‘사람’을 바라보는 상이한 시각(최경아, 강릉원주대: 논평 강형철, 동국대 WIES)에 대한 발표와 토론이 이루어졌습니다.
정기총회에서는 전임학회장 최종찬 교수님(한국외대)께 공로패를 수여하는 순서가 있었으며, 학회 운영 및 회계 보고와 이에 대한 감사가 진행되었습니다.
이번 학술대회가 성공적으로 개최될 수 있도록 공동으로 주최한 인도철학회와 한국외국어대학교 인도연구소 HK+사업단에 깊은 감사의 말씀을 전하며, 후원을 아끼지 않은 한국연구재단에도 감사를 드립니다. 또한, 알찬 프로그램의 학술대회가 될 수 있도록 노력해 주신 이춘호 (사)한국인도학회 연구이사님께도 감사의 말씀을 전합니다. 무엇보다도 바쁘신 와중에도 다양한 발표와 토론을 통해 새로운 학술적 논의 대상들을 발견할 수 있도록 도와주신 여러 선생님과 학술대회 준비 기간 내내 따뜻한 관심과 격려를 보내주신 학회원 여러분께 다시 한번 감사의 인사를 올립니다.
이번 학술대회에서 『인도연구』 28권 1호와 2호가 배포되었습니다. 학술대회에 참가하지 못하신 분 중 학술지가 필요하신 분께서는 곧 발송될 학회 간사 이메일에 답신을 주시면 발송 드리도록 하겠습니다.
마지막으로, (사)한국인도학회는 학회원 여러분의 관심과 지원으로 운영됩니다. 학회 홈페이지에서는 학회 연회비, 혹은 학회 기부금을 보내실 수 있는 계좌를 공유하고 있으며, 지정기부금 단체로서 연말정산 시 기부금 세제 혜택을 받으실 수 있는 기부금 영수증도 발행해 드리고 있습니다. 다가올 2024년 회원 선생님들 모두 건강하시고 원하는 많은 일들 이루시기를 기원하겠습니다.

Dear Members of the Society,
The Korean Society for Indian Studies held its 55th Regular Conference on Saturday, December 2nd, at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. The conference was co-hosted with the Korea Society for Indian Philosophy and the Institute of Indian Studies HK+ Project, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies on ‘Thoughts, Culture, and Contemporary Society of India.’
The Opening Remarks were delivered by Professor Lee, Tae-Seung, President of the Korea Society for Indian Philosophy, followed by Welcoming Remarks of Professor Lee, Eun-Gu, President of the Korean Society for Indian Studies.
The Conference invited eight presentations, which were divided into two panels. Following the title of ‘India, Bridge Between Past and Present’, the first panel (Chair Ryoo, Hyun-Jung, SNU) was comprised of four presentations on A Study on the Ideas of Chakra in the Leadbeater's The Chakras : Focused on Comparison with Ṣaṭcakranirūpaṇa (Kim, Jae-Min, Dongguk U.: Discussant Sim, Jun-Bo, HUFS), Any Backgrounds for the Riktalipi Tradition of Jain Manuscripts? (Shim, Jae-Kwan, SangjiU.: Discussant Han, Jae-Hee, Dongguk U.), The Establishment of Non-duality through Śāṅkara‘s Critiques on Other Schools of Thought: With Reference to Chapter 2 of Brahma Sūtra Śāṅkara Bhāṣya (Park, Eun-Sun, HUFS: Discussant Moon, Eul-Sik, SUB) and Yogasūtra and Supernormal Powers: A Comparative Interpretation of Vyās and Hariharananda on the 'Vibhūti-Pādaḥ’ (Choi, Yoon-Jea, Dongguk U.: Discussant Ahn, Pil-Seop, Dongguk U.). For the second panel, titled ‘India Today and Tomorrow’ (Chair Lee, Soon-Cheul, BUFS), four papers on Making the Welfare State in India: The Politics of Social Welfare Policies and Path Dependency (Baik, Jong-Wan, Korea U.: Discussant Kim, Soon-Ae, KOFIH), A Study on the Riṣṭasamuccya of Durgadeva: Relating to Death Preparation Education (Yang, Young-Sun, SNU: Discussant Kim, Tae-Hong, JNU), Covid-19, Hindu Nationalism, and India’s Muslims (Kim, Hee-Won, Aston U.: Discussant Lee, Ji-Eun, Sejong U.), and A Different Perspective on 'Person' in Indian Religious Philosophy (Choi, Kyung-Ah, Gangneung-Wonju Natl. U.: Discussant Kang, Hyong-Chol, Dongguk U. WISE) were presented.
The following Regular Meeting of Members began with the presentation of a plaque of Appreciation to our former president, Professor Choi, Jong-Chan (HUFS). After that, discussions of agendas of the 2023 academic year, as well as accounting reports and audits, were conducted.
We would like to thank our co-hosts, the Korea Society for Indian Philosophy and the Institute of Indian Studies HK+ Project, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, as well as the National Research Foundation of Korea for their generous support of the conference. We also applaud the efforts of Lee Choon-Ho, Officer of Research, for organization of the program. Most of all, we thank all participants of the conference, as well as scholars and students who gathered from various universities to listen and contribute to the proceedings.
Issue 1 & 2 of Volume 28 of the Journal of Indian Studies(JIS) were distributed at this conference. If you would like a hard copy of JIS, please respond to our secretary’s email, which will be sent out shortly.
Finally, we sincerely thank all members for your continuous support, which is the basis of our Society’s operation.
