Dear Members of the Society,

We would like to inform you briefly of the activities of the Korean Society for Indian Studies during the past quarter.

1. The 40th Regular Conference of the Society was held at Sunmoon University on Saturday, June 11. We thank all members who participated in the academic sessions and joined us for dinner. We also send our appreciations to His Excellency Mr. Vikram Doraiswami and the Indian Embassy in Seoul, as well as Mr. Changho Kwag, Director of POSRI, for their financial support. The Conference would not have been possible without the help and management of Professor Geo-lyong Lee, Vice-President of KSIS, and Professor Eun-gu Lee, Director of the Institute of Indian Studies, HUFS.

2. We would like to announce the date and venue of our 41st Regular Conference. The Conference will be held on Saturday, December 10, at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Seoul. In addition to a Special Panel commemorating the 125th Anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar’s birth, we are planning a panel on Contemporary India and its Politics/Economics/Society, and one open panel. Members interested in presenting, discussing, or moderating panels may contact our Officer for Research (Dr. Jieun Lee, jieunlee333@hotmail.com) by August 28.

3. We started using the JAMS 2.0 Online System partially for the submission and review of articles in volume 21-1 of the Journal of Indian Studies published this May, and will be fully integrating the system by the next issue. While the current JAMS page lacks much information, we plan to update the page as well as our homepage once the system is running without further problems. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for the JAMS Online System or the homepage of our Society (www.indology.co.kr).

4. We applied to receive DOI(Digital Object Identifier) numbers for articles in the Journal of Indian Studies, and all articles since 2007 have now been assigned its own DOI (Due to the Agreement between the NRF and CrossRef, only articles post-2007 have been assigned DOIs). If you would like to search for the DOI of a particular article, please check the link at http://www.kci.go.kr/kciportal/landing/index.kci and search for the Journal of Indian Studies, followed by the year of publications.

5. The Regular Conferences and publication of the Journal of Indian Studies are made possible by the annual fees of our members as well as financial support of governmental and private agencies or institutions. As our Society has been registered as a Designated Donation Organization in 2015, individuals or corporations are now able to make donations and receive tax deductions according to the law. If you are interested in making a donation, or have any suggestions on applying for funds, please contact us at any time, and we will be happy to answer any questions.

Thank you for your support of the Korean Society of Indian Studies, and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday, December 10, 2016,

Yours sincerely,

Hawon Ku, General Secretary, KSIS
