Laughing in Sanskrit: Four One-Man Shows (C?turbh??i) Recrafted, an international symposium hosted by the Department of Asian Languages and Civilizations, Seoul National University, will take place on October 26-27, 2018. 

 

 

On October 26th (Friday), there will be a public forum discussing the C?turbh??i, a classic collection of four exemplars of the genre of the bh??a, a one-act comedic “one-man show” showcasing the foibles and intrigues of the courtesans’ quarters. The four panelists will discuss their ongoing retranslation of this classic of ancient Indian erotic comedy:

On October 27th (Saturday), there will also be a Sanskrit translation workshop on the Padmaprabhr?taka of ??draka, one of the four bh??as of the C?turbh??i collection. The workshop will be led by Deven Patel. To participate in the translation workshop, please contact tlsmith@snu.ac.kr  Lunch will be provided for workshop participants.
