김우조 교수(인도어과) 인도정부로부터 공로상 수상 2014-08-29

김우조 한국외국어대 인도어과 교수가 힌디어 교육에 헌신하고 인도문화를 연구 • 소개하는 등 양국 교류에 이바지한 점을 인정받아 인도 정부로부터 공로상 (Dr. George Grierson Award; Hindi Sevi Samman Puraskar)을 받았다.

인도 정부는 지난 1994년부터 매년 인도를 연구하는 해외 학자 한 명을 선정해 이 상을 수여해 왔다. 김 교수는 8월 27일 인도 대통령궁에서 프라납 무케르지 대통령으로부터 직접 이 상을 수여 받았다.

 

김 교수는 한국외국어대학교 인도어과를 졸업하고 인도 샨티니케탄의 비슈바바라티 대학에서 힌디 문학으로 박사학위를 수여하였으며, 그간 인도 여성과 종파주의를 문예 사회학적인 관점에서 연구하여 논문과 공저를 발간하였다. 또한 텍스트분석을 토대로 중세인도문학, 타고르를 비롯한 근-현대의 인도 시인에 관한 연구 업적을 남겼다. 김교수는 국내 최초 한국어-힌디어 사전의 책임편집인으로서 역할을 하였고 2007년 뉴욕에서 열린 8차 세계힌디대회에서 인도정부에서 수여하는 공로상을 수상했다. 또한 한국인도학회 2대 회장으로 학회의 활성화에 중심적인 역할을 하였다.

 

The Department of Hindi of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies(HUFS), Seoul, is proud to announce that Professor Kim Woo Jo has received the Dr. George Grierson Award (डॉ जॉर्ज ग्रियर्सन पुरस्कार, Hindi Sevi Samman Puraskar), which commemorates scholarly achievements in Hindi education and raising awareness of Indian culture. Professor Kim received the award from President Shri Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday August 27, 2014, at the Durbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

 

 

Professor Kim completed her undergraduate degree at the Department of Hindi, HUFS, and received her PhD from the Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan in Hindi Literature. She has published numerous scholarly articles on literary and social constructions of gender and communalism in India, as well as studies on medieval and modern Indian literature, including works of Tagore, based on textual analysis. She also acted as editor for the first Korean-Hindi Dictionary, published by HUFS, and has been influential in raising awareness of Indology as the second President of the Korean Society for Indian Studies Inc.
