제48차 학술대회 보고 Report for 48th Conference

안녕하십니까?

지난 7월 4일, 코로나감염증-19라는 초유의 사태로 온라인에서 거행된 (사)한국인도학회·선문대학교·한국외대 인도연구소 HK+사업단 공동학술대회 및 (사)한국인도학회 제48차 정기학술대회에 대해 간략한 보고 올립니다. 이번 학술대회는 “대전환기 남아시아의 종교와 정치”를 주제로 삼아 두 개의 패널을 준비하였습니다.

개회식은 한국인도학회 회장 이거룡 교수님(선문대)의 개회사와 함께 소누 뜨리베디 스와미비베카난다 주한인도문화원장님의 축사가 있었습니다.

이어 진행된 학술대회 순서는 두 개의 패널로 나뉘어 진행되었습니다. 첫 패널(좌장 심재관, 상지대)에서는 인도 제헌의회 여성의원의 젠더의식(박금표, 한국외대; 토론 강명남, 한남대)와 하타요가 무드라 반다 수행(강위달, 선문대; 토론 정소영, 선문대), 자이나교의 탄트리즘(양영순, 동국대; 토론 최지연, 한국외대)에 대한 발표가 진행되었습니다. 인도연구소 HK+패널(좌장 최경아, 동국대)에서는 스리랑카의 불교 근대주의(김한상, 한국외대; 토론 담마낏띠, 동국대)와 카스트 기반 할당제에 대한 대학생들의 인지(신진영, 한국외대·최정욱, 건국대; 토론 정채성, 한국외대), 1960년대 인도 핵정책(지연정, 한국외대; 토론 라지브 꾸마르, 한국외대)에 대한 발표와 토론이 이루어졌습니다. 온라인 학술대회로 진행에 미숙함이 있었음에도 불구하고 끝날 때까지 많은 분들이 참여하시고 지켜봐주셔서 큰 감사를 드립니다.

이번 학술대회가 성공적으로 개최될 수 있도록 공동으로 주최한 선문대학교 나디-프리모연구소와 한국외국어대학교 인도연구소 HK+사업단에 깊은 감사의 말씀을 전하며, 후원을 아끼지 않은 한국연구재단에도 감사를 드립니다. 또한 알찬 프로그램의 학술대회가 될 수 있도록 노력해주신 이지은 한국인도학회 연구이사님께도 감사의 말씀을 전합니다. 바쁘신 데에도 불구하고 축사를 위해 방문하신 뜨리베디 주한인도문화원장님과 다양한 발표와 토론을 통해 새로운 학술적 논의 대상들을 발견할 있도록 도와주신 여러 선생님들, 학술대회 준비 기간 내내 따뜻한 관심과 격려를 보내주신 한국인도학회 회원 여러분들께 다시 한 번 감사의 인사를 올립니다.

학술대회에서 배포할 예정이었던 자료집과 『인도연구』 25권 1호는 요청하시는 경우 우편으로 보내드리거나, 홈페이지에서 다운로드(indology.co.kr) 받으실 수 있습니다. 이번 『인도연구』는 인도 역사교과서의 서술과 네팔 달리트의 시민권과 정체성, 인도국가(國歌) 제정 과정, 그리고 인도센서스에 대한 연구 등 흥미진진한 논문을 싣고 있습니다. 필요한 경우, 『인도연구』 25권 1호는 2호와 함께 겨울 정기학술대회에서도 배포할 예정이오니, 참고하시기 바랍니다. 상황을 지켜보아야겠지만, 12월 12일(토요일)개최 예정인 제 49차 한국인도학회 정기학술대회에도 학회원 여러분의 큰 관심과 성원을 부탁드립니다.

마지막으로, 한국인도학회는 학회원 여러분의 관심과 지원으로 운영을 하고 있습니다. 학회 홈페이지에서는 학회 연회비, 혹은 학회 기부금을 보내실 수 있는 계좌를 공유하고 있으며, 지정기부금 단체로서 연말정산시 기부금 영수증도 발행해드리고 있습니다. 무덥고 뜨거운 여름, 회원 선생님들 모두 건강하시고 원하는 많은 일들 이루시기를 기원하겠습니다.

Report of the Korean Society for Indian Studies

Dear Members of the Society,

The Korean Society for Indian Studies held its first online event, the 48th Regular Conference on Saturday, July 4th, due to Covid-19, and we are sending a short report of the event. Co-hosted with Sun Moon University and the Institute of Indian Studies HK+ Project, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, we prepared two panels on “Religion and Politics in a Transitional Era for South Asia.”

The Opening Remarks were delivered by Professor Geo-Lyong Lee(Sun Moon U), President of the Korean Society for Indian Studies, followed by congratulatory remarks of Dr. Sonu Trivedi, Director of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Seoul.

The Conference itself was comprised of two panels. The first panel(Chair Jae-kwan Shim, Sangji U.) was comprised of three presentations on gender consciousness of women members in the Indian Assembly(Park, Kyum-Pyo, HUFS; discussant Kang, Myeong-Nam, Hannam U.), the effects of mudra banda practice of Hatha Yoga(Kang, Wee-dal, Sun Moon U; Discussant Chung, Soyoung, Sun Moon U.), and tantra in Jainism (Yang, Youngsun, Dongguk U.; Discussant Choi, Ji Yeon, HUFS). For the HK+ Project Panel(Chair Kyeong-Ah Choi, Dongguk U.), three papers on Buddhist Modernism in Sri Lanka(Kim, Han-sang, HUFS; Discussant Ven. Dhammakitti, Dongguk U), social integration and the Reservation Policy in India(Shin, Jin-Young, HUFS·Choi, Jung-Ug, Konkuk U.; Discussant Jeong, Chae-Sung, HUFS), and India’s nuclear policies in the 1960s(Ji, Yeon-Jung, HUFS; Discussant Rajiv Kumar, HUFS), were presented. We thank participants and the audience, many who stayed till the end of the conference, for their patience with the first online format.

We thank our co-hosts, the Nadi-Primo Institute, Sun Moon University, the Institute of Indian Studies HK+ Project, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, as well as the National Research Foundation of Korea for their generous support of the conference. We also applaud the efforts of Dr. Jieun Lee, Officer of Research, for organization of the program. Most of all we thank Dr. Trivedi, who visited to deliver her remarks, and all participants of the conference, as well as scholars and students who gathered from various universities to listen and contribute to the proceedings.

You may request printed copies of the proceedings or Issue 1 of Volume 25 of the Journal of Indian Studies, which would have been distributed at the conference. Otherwise, they can be downloaded from our homepage, indology.co.kr. This issue of the JIS includes articles on the Indian history textbooks, citizenship and identity of Nepali Dalits, the creation of the Indian national song, and studies on the Indian Census. We also plan to distribute copies of JIS at our winter conference, which will be held on Saturday, December 12th, while we will be updating all following the circumstances.
