한국인도학회 제45차 정기학술대회 보고 /Report for the KSIS 45th Conference

안녕하십니까?

지난 12월 8일 한국외국어대학교 교수회관 강연실에서 거행된 제45차 한국인도학회 정기학술대회 결과에 대해 간략한 보고 올립니다. 이번 학술대회는 “마하뜨마 간디 탄생 150주년 기념 학술대회”로 준비하였습니다.

개회식은 한국인도학회 회장 이거룡 교수님(선문대)의 개회사와 함께 시작되어 주한인도대사관 스리쁘리야 랑가나탄 신임 대사님의 축사가 있었으며, 한국외국어대학교 대외협력처장 이은구 교수님의 환영사가 이어졌습니다.

이어 진행된 학술대회 순서는 2개의 패널로 나뉘어 총 다섯 분 선생님들의 다양한 연구발표와 토론이 이루어졌습니다. 첫 패널은 “마하뜨마 간디 사상의 궤적”(좌장 이옥순, 인도문화연구원)을 살피는 패널로, “마하뜨마 간디 ? 정치인인가 힌두성자인가?” (최경아, 동국대; 토론 이춘호, 영산대), “간디의 단식이 인도 사회 통합에 미친 영향” (박금표, 한국외대; 토론 이필원, 동국대), “간디, 아르주나의 마차 위에서 물레를 돌리다” (심재관, 상지대; 토론 최지연, 한국외대) 등의 주제로 간디 선생의 사상을 되짚어보는 기회를 가졌습니다.

“독립 이후 인도의 정치경제”를 다룬 두 번째 패널에서는(좌장 라윤도, 건양대) “인디라 간디(Indira Gandhi)의 계엄정치가 지역 중산층 엘리트들의 정치 참여에 끼친 영향에 대한 연구” (이병진, 한국외대; 토론 정채성, 한국외대), “남아시아 국가들의 지속가능한 성장에 관한 연구” (김신주, 서울대; 토론 안유진, 삼성경제연구소) 등의 발표를 통하여 현대 인도의 정치와 경제를 고찰하며 활발한 토론이 이루어졌습니다.

학술대회 후 총회가 이어졌습니다. 총회에서는 지난 2018년 사단법인 한국인도학회의 활동에 대한 보고와 2018년 회계 보고가 있었습니다. 구하원 총무이사님께서 멀리서 활동보고서를 준비하여주셨으며, 김선미 재무이사님, 문을식 감사님께서 수고하여 주셨습니다. 또한 2년 만에 있었던 차기회장선출에서 이거룡 회장님의 연임이 결정되었습니다. 이 외에 인도학회의 향후 활동을 위한 여러 가지 제언을 듣는 시간을 가졌습니다. 이후 저녁 식사와 차를 나누며 참가자들과 회원들의 연구에 대해서도 많은 이야기를 나눌 수 있었습니다.

이번 학술대회를 공동 주최한 한국외국어대학교 인도연구소 HK+사업단에 깊은 감사의 말씀을 전하며, 학술대회의 성공적 개최를 위해 후원을 아끼지 않은 한국연구재단과 주한인도대사관 및 ICCR(Indian Council for Cultural Relations)에도 감사를 드립니다. 무엇보다도 바쁘신 데에도 불구하고 다양한 발표와 토론을 통해 새로운 학술적 논의 대상들을 발견할 있도록 도와주신 여러 선생님들과 학술대회 준비 기간 내내 따뜻한 관심과 격려를 보내주신 한국인도학회 회원 여러분들께 다시 한 번 감사의 인사를 올립니다.

투고마감을 변경하여 2019년 4월말 출간 예정인 『인도연구』 24권 1호에 많은 투고를 부탁드리며(투고마감 2019년 2월 28일), 2019년 6월 8일 개최 예정인 제46차 한국인도학회 정기학술대회에도 학회원 여러분의 관심과 성원을 부탁드립니다.

Report of the Korean Society for Indian Studies (Inc.)

Dear Respected Members of the Society,

The Korean Society for Indian Studies held its 45th Regular Conference on Saturday, 8th December, at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Seoul, and we would like to present a short report of the event. The conference was prepared to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The Opening Remarks were delivered by Prof. Geo-Lyong Lee (Sun Moon Univ.), President of the Korean Society for Indian Studies, followed by Congratulatory Remarks of H. E. Ms. Sripriya Ranganathan, Ambassador of India to Korea, and Welcoming Remarks of Prof. Eungu Lee, Director of Office of External Development at HUFS.

The Conference was comprised of two panels with five presentations. The first panel was titled “Tracing the Thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi” (Chair: Professor Ocksoon Lee, Director of Institute of Indian Cultural Studies), and the three presentations on “Understanding Mahatma Gandhi: A Politician or a Hindu Sage?” (Kyung-A Choi, Dongguk University; discussed by Choonho Lee, Youngsan Univ.), “The effects of Gandhi’s fasting on the integration of Indian society” (Kyum-Pyo Park, HUFS; discussed by Pilwon Lee, Dongguk University), “Gandhi, the Person Who's Spinning the Carkha on Arjuna's Chariot” (Jaekwan Shim, Sangji University; discussed by Ji Yeon Choe, HUFS) provided a wide spectrum of the ongoing researches on Gandhian thoughts.

“A Study on the influence of Indira Gandhi’s “Martial Politics” on the Political Participation of Local Middle Class Elites“ (Byungjin Lee, HUFS; discussed by Chae-Seong Jeong, HUFS), and ”Study on Sustainable Growth in South Asian Countries“ (Shinjou Kim, Seoul National University; discussed by Yujin Ahn, Samsung Economic Research Institute) were presented at the second panel on “India after Gandhi” (Chair: Yoon-Dho Ra, Konyang Univ.).

Following the panels, Regular Meeting has been held after one year. Annual Reports including activities of the Society of 2018 and plans for 2019 were prepared by Professor Hawon Ku, and Professor Eul-Shik Moon gave his audit report after the financial report of Professor Sunmi Kim. Regular Meeting also voted for the consecutive appointment of Professor Geo-Lyong Lee as a President. There have been a few suggestions to improve the management of regular conference, which will be further discussed in the officers’ meeting.

We would like to thank our co-hosts, HK+ Project, the Institute of Indian Studies, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and the National Research Foundation of Korea, as well as ICCR(Indian Council for Cultural Relations) and Embassy of India to Republic of Korea for their generous support. Most of all we thank all participants of the conference, as well as scholars and students who gathered from various universities to listen and contribute to the proceedings.
