인도학회 41차 학술대회 보고 Report for KSIS 41st Conference

존경하는 한국인도학회 회원 여러분께

안녕하십니까? 지난 12월 10일 한국외국어대학교 교수회관 강연실에서 개최된 제 41차 한국인도학회 정기학술대회 결과에 대해 간략한 보고 올립니다. 이번 학술대회는 암베드까르 박사 탄생 125주년을 기념하여 “암베드까르와 인도 사회”라는 주제로 주요 패널을 준비하였으며, 학술대회와 함께 인도문화원에서 제공한 암베드까르 관련 사진 전시를 같이 진행하였습니다.

개회식은 한국인도학회 회장 임근동 교수님(한국외대)의 개회사와 한국외대 인도연구소장 이은구 교수님의 환영사로 시작하였으며, 올해 신설된 부산외국어대학교 인도언어문화연구소장 고태진 교수님의 인사가 있었습니다. 지난 두 해 학회를 위하여 재정과 자료 등 다방면에서 인도정부와 대사관의 도움을 적극적으로 이끌어주신 비끄람 도래스와미 주한인도대사님께 직접 감사패를 증정하는 순서를 가진 후, 대사님의 간략한 답사로 마무리하였습니다.

이어 진행된 학술대회 순서는 3개의 패널로 나뉘어 여러 선생님들의 다양한 연구발표와 토론이 이루어졌습니다. 각 패널은 백좌흠 교수님(경상대학교)과 이한상 교수님(영산대), 그리고 황용식 선생님의 사회로 ‘암베드까르 박사 탄생 125주년 기념 패널: 암베드까르와 인도 사회’, ‘인도 기업과 사회’, 그리고 ‘요가와 수행의 전통’이라는 주제를 두고 총 7개의 주제 발표와 열띤 토론이 진행되었습니다.

암베드까르 박사의 활동과 관련하여 헌법과 소외계층·민족을 중심으로 한 첫 패널은 강경선 교수님(방송대), 박정석 교수님(목포대), 꼬샬 꾸마르 선생님(네루대학교)의 발표로 이루어졌으며, 최근 화두가 되고 있는 기업의 사회적 책임과 인도의 외국인직접 투자를 주제로 한 두 번째 패널에서는 김우성 교수님(건국대)과 안유진 선생님(삼성경제연구원)의 발표가 있었습니다. 요가행자의 인식론과 수행 논리에 대한 패널에서는 안필섭 선생님(동국대)과 성청환 선생님(동국대)의 발표가 있었으며, 발표자 선생님들과 함께 고문현 교수님(숭실대), 이지은 선생님(서강대), 흐리데 나라연 교수님(한국외대), 김응기 선생님(주 비티엔), 김미수 선생님(한국외대), 심준보 교수님(동국대), 강형철 교수님(동국대)께서 심도 깊은 토론을 이끌어 주셔서 다양한 학술적 의견이 개진되었으며 앞으로 출간되어 널리 읽힐 수 있기를 바랍니다.

학술대회 후 정기총회를 개최하여 1년간 학회 운영 전반에 대하여 구하원 총무이사가 보고하였으며 (첨부파일 참조) 임근동 학회장님께서 총무이사, 이지은 연구이사, 정채성 편집위원장의 공로에 감사하는 기념패를 수여하였습니다. 마지막으로 후보 추천과 토론, 거수를 통하여 선문대학교 글로컬 통합의학대학원 이거룡 교수님을 차기 학회장으로 선출하였으며 이에 따라 신임학회장님께서는 2017년부터 2년 임기를 맡으시게 되었습니다.

이번 학술대회가 성공적으로 개최될 수 있도록 많은 도움을 주신 인도대사관과 인도문화원, 인적·재정적 지원을 아끼지 않은 한국외대 인도연구소와 부산외대 인도언어문화연구소에 깊은 감사의 말씀을 전합니다. 또한 알찬 프로그램의 학술대회가 될 수 있도록 노력해주신 이지은 한국인도학회 연구이사님께도 감사의 말씀을 전합니다.

무엇보다도 바쁘신 데에도 불구하고 다양한 발표와 토론을 통해 새로운 학술적 논의 대상들을 발견할 있도록 도와주신 여러 선생님들과 학술대회 준비 기간 내내 따뜻한 관심과 격려를 보내주신 한국인도학회 회원 여러분들께 다시 한 번 감사의 인사를 올립니다. 2017년 5월 간행 예정인 연구재단 등재지 『인도연구』, 그리고 6월 중 개최 예정인 제 42차 한국인도학회 정기학술대회에도 학회원 여러분의 많은 관심과 성원을 부탁 드립니다.

Report for the 41^st Regular Conference of the Korean Society for Indian Studies

The Korean Society for Indian Studies held its 41^st Regular Conference on Saturday, December 10^th, 2016, at the Faculty Building I of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies(HUFS), Seoul. In accordance with the 125^th anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birth, the Conference was prepared around the theme of “B.R. Ambedkar and Indian Society”. In addition, a photograph exhibition on Dr. Ambedkar, provided by the Indian Cultural Centre, was also held at the venue.

The Opening Remarks was delivered by Prof. Geun Dong Lim, President of the Korean Society for Indian Studies, followed by Welcoming Remarks of Prof. Eun-gu Lee, Director of the Institute of Indian Studies, HUFS. In addition, Prof. Tae-jin Koh announced the opening of a new institute, the Institute of Indian Languages and Culture Studies at BUFS. In appreciation of the support of the Indian Government and Embassy during the past two years, the Society presented a Plaque of Gratitude to His Excellency Mr. Vikram Doraiswami, Indian Ambassador to Korea, who delivered a short speech of acknowledgement.

The Conference itself was comprised of three panels of total seven presentations, led by Professors Jwa-Heum Baek(Gyungsang National University), Han-Sang Lee(Youngsan University), and Yong-sik Hwang(Independent scholar), with the titles of ‘Celebratory Panel for the 125^th Anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar: Ambedkar and Indian Society,’ ‘Corporations and Society of India,’ and ‘Yoga and Asceticism.’

In the first panel concentrated on Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy, Prof. Kyung-son Kang(KNOU), Prof. Jeongseok Park(Mokpo National University), and Mr. Kaushal Kumar(JNU) discussed their current research on the Indian constitution as well as peripheral peoples and castes. CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility) and FDI(Foreign Direct Investment), two relevant topics in contemporary India, were the subject matters of the second panel, presented by Professor Woo-sung Kim(Konkuk U) and Dr. Yujin Ahn(SERI). The presentations of the third panel discussed logics in Indian philosophy by Drs. Pilseop Ahn(Dongguk U) and Chunghwan Seong(Dongguk U). With discussions following each presentation by Professors Moon Hyun Koh(Soongsil U), Ji-Eun Lee(HUFS), Hriday Narayan(HUFS), Eung-ki Kim (BTN Inc.), Misu Kim(HUFS), Jun-bo Shim(Dongguk U) and Hyong-chol Kang(Dongguk U), the papers presented engaging material to the participants, and we hope to see them in published form in the near future.

Following the conference, the Regular Meeting for members was moderated by Hawon Ku, General Secretary of the Society. Dr. Lim also presented plaques of appreciation to the General Secretary and Drs. Jieun Lee(Officer for Research) and Chae-sung Jeong(Chief Editor, JSIS). In addition to a report for the past year’s activities (please refer to attached file), the new president of the Society was elected after recommendations, discussions, and votes. We thank Professor Geo Lyong Lee (Sun Moon U) for accepting the position for the following two years, from 2017 to 2019.

We would like to thank the Indian Embassy of Seoul and the Indian Cultural Centre for their support of the conference, as well as the Institute of Indian Studies, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and the Institute of Indian Language and Culture Studies, BUFS. We also applaud the efforts of Dr. Jieun Lee, Officer of Research, for organization of the program. Most of all we thank all participants of the conference, as well as scholars and students who gathered from various universities to listen and contribute to the proceedings.
