인도학회 제52차 정기학술대회 보고서

안녕하십니까?

사단법인 한국인도학회가 6월 11일(토) 부산 동명대학교에서 개최한 제52차 정기학술대회에 대해 보고 드립니다. 지난 2019년 12월 제47차 정기학술대회를 국회 의원회관에서 개최한 이후 2년 동안 온라인 학회를 계속한 끝에 마침내 대면으로 거행된 이번 정기학술대회는 동명대학교 인도문화연구소, 한국외국어대학교 인도연구소 HK+사업단과 공동으로 주최하였습니다.

개회식은 한국인도학회 회장 최종찬 교수님(한국외대)의 개회사와 많은 외빈들의 축사로 진행되었습니다. 소누 뜨리베디 스와미비베카난다 주한인도문화원장님, 부산경남대표방송 KNN의 김병근 전 사장님, (사)향기로운문화동행 보혜 이사장님 등의 외빈들께서 축사를 해 주셨습니다. 이번 행사를 주관한 동명대학교 인도문화연구소 장재진 소장님의 환영사 이후에는 한국판소리협회 경남마산지회장이신 양효련 선생님과 동명대학교 반현우 교수님의 축하 연주도 있었습니다.

이어 진행된 학술대회는 두 개의 패널로 나뉘어 발표와 논평이 이어졌습니다. 첫 패널(좌장 이거룡, 선문대)은 “남인도 사회와 문화”라는 주제로 남인도의 다양한 문화 양상에 대한 연구 발표가 이루어졌습니다. ‘『씰랍빠디가람』에 나타난 여성의 자기희생적 이미지: 분노하는 여신과 아낭구’(이동원, 서울대), ‘인도 영화에서 등장인물의 카스트 묘사 변화 양상: 따밀어 영화를 중심으로’(윤보람, 네루대), ‘탈식민지화 과정에서 나타난 인도 소수부족의 힌두화’(신진영, 한국외대)를 주제로 세 개의 발표가 있었습니다. 이에 대하여 손연우(부산외대), 강내영(경성대), 정채성(한국외대) 선생님께서 논평을 해 주셨습니다.

두 번째 패널(좌장: 이순철, 부산외대)은 “현대 인도의 정치와 외교”라는 제하에 진행되었으며, ‘신냉전의 도래와 인도 비동맹 외교정책의 복원’(이병진, 동명대), ‘1940-50년대 자와할랄 네루와 힌두민족주의 진영의 대립양상 고찰: 암소도살금지법 제정을 둘러싼 논쟁을 중심으로’(신민하, 한국외대)를 주제로 두 개의 발표가 있었습니다. 논평은 박인휘(이화여대), 이지은(세종대) 두 분 선생님께서 맡아주셨습니다.

이번 학술대회가 성공적으로 개최될 수 있도록 공동으로 주최한 동명대학교 인도문화연구소와 한국외국어대학교 인도연구소 HK+사업단에 깊은 감사의 말씀을 전합니다. 휴일임에도 참석하여 축하의 말씀을 전해주신 스와미비베카난다 인도문화원의 뜨리베디 원장님과 외빈 여러분께도 감사드립니다. 알찬 프로그램의 학술대회가 될 수 있도록 애써주신 이춘호 한국인도학회 연구이사님, 윤보람 간사님께도 감사의 말씀을 전합니다. 학술대회에 좌장, 발표자, 토론자로 기여해 주신 여러 선생님들과 참석하여 끝까지 자리를 지키며 성원해주신 한국인도학회 회원 여러분께 다시 한 번 감사의 인사를 올립니다.

Report of the Korean Society for Indian Studies

Dear Members of the Society,

The Korean Society for Indian Studies held the 52nd Regular Conference on Saturday, June 11th, at Tongmyong University, Busan. This conference has been co-hosted with the Institute of Indian Culture, Tongmyong University and the Institute of Indian Studies HK+ Project, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies on the various themes of Indian and South Asian Studies.

In the inaugural session, the opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Jong-Chan Choi (HUFS), President of the Korean Society for Indian Studies. There have been congratulatory remarks by Dr. Sonu Trivedi, Director of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Seoul, Mr. Byung-Geun Kim, ex-President of KNN Broadcasting, and Ven. Bo-Hye, Chairperson of Fragrant Cultural Accompany Foundation. Welcoming Remarks were delivered by Prof. Jae-Jin Jang, Director of Indian Culture Research Institute, Tongmyong University followed by musical performances of Ms. Hyo-Reon Yang, Head of Pansori Association, Kyung-Nam Branch and Prof. Hyun-Woo Ban of Tongmyong University to commemorate the conference.

The Conference invited five presentations, which were divided into two panels. The first panel (Chair: Geo-Lyong Lee, Sunmoon University) was comprised of three presentations on the theme of “South India: Society and Culture.” Dr. Dong-Won Lee (SNU) presented on ‘Self-sacrificing Images of Women in Cilappatikāram: Angry Goddess and Aṇaṅku’, Dr. Boram Yoon (JNU) spoke on ‘Changing Representation of Caste in Indian Films: Focusing on Tamil-language Films’, and Dr. Jin-Young Shin (HUFS) presented on ‘Hinduization of Indian Tribes in the Process of Decolonization.’ Dr. Yeon-Woo Son (BUFS), Dr. Nae-Young Kang (Kyungsung University), and Dr. Chae-Seong Jeong (HUFS) commented on the respective presentations.

The second panel (Chair Soon Chul Lee, BUFS) was comprised of two presentations on the theme of “Contemporary India: Politics and Diplomacy.” Dr. Byung-Jin Lee (Tongmyong University) presented on ‘The Advent of the New Cold War and the Restoration of India’s Non-Aligned Diplomacy’, and Dr. Min-Ha Shin (HUFS) spoke on ‘A Study on the Confrontation between Jawaharlal Nehru and the Hindu Nationalists in the 1940-50s: Focusing on the Controversy over the Prohibition of Cow-slaughter.’ Prof. Ihn-Hwi Park (Ewha Womans University) and Prof. Ji-Eun Lee (Sejong University) also joined the panel as discussants.

We thank our co-hosts, the Institute of Indian Culture, Tongmyong University, as well as the Institute of Indian Studies HK+Project, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies for their generous support of the conference. We want to express our gratitude to the distinguished guests including Dr. Trivedi, who visited to deliver her remarks. We also applaud the efforts of Prof. Choon-Ho Lee, Officer of Research, and Ms. Boram Yoon, assistant secretary of KSIS for organization of the program. Last but not least, we thank all participants of the conference, as well as scholars who gathered from various universities to listen and contribute to the proceedings.
